Eyewitness Weather

Title:               Eyewitness Weather
Category:       Nonfiction
Grade:            3-8
Author:          Brian Cosgrove
Illustrator:      N/A
Publisher:       DK Publishing
Date:               2004
Pages:             72

Summary:
The Eyewitness books tend to have a picture atlas or encyclopedic feel, and Weather is no different.  Each page, organized by topic, is rich with photographs, illustrations and captions, overwhelming the “main” text.  The book covers all major forms of weather, including a brief look at tropical storms and tornadoes.  Hidden within the captions are many folk prediction methods and tips about determining weather, plus facts and stats about major historical weather events.

Review:
The rich pictures will capture a child’s attention, but the extensive fine print may be a turn off to less experienced readers.  The book may also cause difficulty for young researchers because useful information is not always clearly labeled or intuitive to find.
